Power Steering Help in Austin?
So we've just moved down to Austin from Dallas. Today my power steering wasn't working. I topped off the fluid but it seems to be dripping from the bottom. Not sure if it's a hose or what. Its a Disco I.
Anyone willing to help me diagnose or at least point me to a good reputable shop here in Austin?

Gonna need to clean it up good to find the leak. Possibility it is one of the hoses but could also be the power steering pump or gear box. Clean it up and try to pinpoint the leak better and we can help you better with diagnosing. Use some simple green and rags to clean everything off good.
Thanks for the help... So I ended up going to Austin Motorcars this afternoon because I couldn't afford to go the whole weekend and next week is pretty busy for me. They gave me some story about the steel line going around the steering box being the culprit but I never actually saw the leak. Supposedly a rubber hose wore it down... Hmmm, rubber wearing steel down right???
I said I wanted to see the part after they got it off. They tried to tell me it would be $90 for the line and 3.5 hours or so and I'd have to wait until Monday to. Finally I was told since they had a steering box in their shop they could use the line off of it (but charge me for the new part which they would put back on their steering box). I waited about 45 min and they were done and told me "everything came off easier and was easier to get to than expected".
They wanted to charge me 2.5 hours plus the part and other stuff for a total of $325. They backed it down to $288 but when I asked to see the part it is clear that they literally to a grinder to it to wear the line!
I sure wish I would have had more time to really settle in and get to know the local community like I had in Dallas!

I'm sorry that you had that experience. I live in Austin and haven't really found a Rover knowledgeable shop besides the dealer. I have leaned on the local Texas Rovers members for help and they've always been quick to help. Have you checked out the website www.texasrovers.com?
I had an issue the same as you and ended up having to replace my whole steering box and hoses. I did the job myself in a few hours and haven't had an issue since.
Send me a PM and i'll shoot you my number in case you have any other issues you may need help with.

Sorry you got screwed. The aforementioned worm screw fix is what I was trying to get at with you by trying to get you to clean it off. But I understand not having time when you are in the middle of moving. I was hoping that you were leaking from the bottom of the reservoir and you could just replace with a worm screw clamp and fix the problem. The hoses are fairly cheap and easy to replace. You can get all 3 for around 120 bucks plus shipping from AB, which is less than you got screwed for. Sorry again to hear that. BTW my parents live in the Austin area and I used to live in Georgetown, now I live back in Fort Worth lol. Guess we just swapped places. Good luck to you.
