Default quick and dirty LED light bar mount

had this scorcher laying over from my jeep, my girlfriend bought it for me so i held onto it when i parted it out. i have my headliner out so i figured i'd tackle this today.

started out with a 48" piece of 1/8" angle iron i bought from the hardware store for 12 bucks. cut it down to 47" and notched the ends so it would fit under the factory roof rails, bent the ends up to match the roof rail angle, and test fit it. it is attached using some big ol' self tappers into the factory roof rails.

looks good, but i started to have anxiety about the sunroof getting to know the newly adding metal too closely. so i notched out the middle.

popped the sunroof up, perfect. it probably would have fit without trimming but it would have been too close for comfort.

flap disc'd the hell out of all the corners and covered it in paint, mounted the LED bar.

unfortunately i underestimated the tilt adjustability in the bar, so it is aimed way down. i'm gonna use the metal i cut out to clear the sunroof to make a pair of shims and it should be perfect.

no pics of it on yet, i didn't run the wiring. if anyone is curious i can post a picture from when i had it on my jeep. it is a 42" Olympus Off Road Pro Series combo beam bar. I have a 7" gen 2 single row that i'll be painting amber on the way to replace the factory land rover hellas on the grill guard. i like lights.

Looks great, I bought 4 $7 lights from harbor freight and just drilled through the cross bar. Yours looks much better.

had to notch/grind some more, the back of the bracket interfered more than i thought. added some angled spacers and presto. it looks a little low still but i have a more adjustability left. its not wired in yet so i'll make final adjustments when i do that... probably this weekend.

Nice and clean install.
Are you blacking out the hood to prevent glare?
Does it look like any light with be coming in through the sunroof?

it was farther forward on my jeep than it is here, and glare wasnt a huge deal. i was thinking about blacking out the hood anyway, we'll see. i didnt even think about light coming in through the sunroof but i'm like 99% sure the light is forward of it.

Those LEDs should shine directly forward, so I doubt you'd have any light coming down thru the sunroof.

Question on the wiring: how are you going to route it from the outside to the inside?

I have a 40x60 roof basket on the top of my D1, and was thinking of running a 20" single row LED light bar at the back, a 40" dual row LED light bar on the front, using some PIAA clamps to mount them to the basket itself:

20" Compact Off Road LED Light Bar - 54W | Off Road Light Bars | LED Work Light & Off Road LED Light Bars | Super Bright LEDs

Robot Check

Amazon.com: PIAA 74000 7/8"-1.25" L-Bracket, (Twin Pack): Automotive

What has me full stop is routing the wiring from the outside to the inside? I'm no automotive electrical guru, so I'd probably mount them and have a shop install the wiring and switches, but would like to get an idea of how the wires for the front and rear light bars would get from the exterior of the vehicle to the interior, other than the obvious solution of drilling holes in the roof...

i drilled through the roof. i already had the headliner out to put new fabric on so it wasnt a big deal... used black RTV inside and out to seal it.

Ah...I just paid $475 to get a new headliner done at an upholstery shop, so I'm not quite ready yet to start drilling thru the roof. I'll take the Disco to the auto electric shop that installed my new speakers, and ask the guy about wiring up those light bars, and if he goes thru the roof, how he plans on dealing with the headliner, and making it water-tight.
