Here is what I did when I discovered my lug caps were boogered... see pics :D

Boogered up lug cap:

Take an open-end 1-1/16" wrench and a mallet, and bang on all 3 pairs of flats.

Eventually the caps will be formed back to the lug nut underneath so that the stock lug wrench fits again.

And viola! Nicely reformed lug cap!

Looks like your wheel is cracked. Might not be safe.

Does your work bench have a granite counter top, or are you risking life and limb working on your wife's nice kitchen/bar counter top? LOL! Yea, I know, it was just for the video. Nice Job!

Great little trick. Thanks! Most of mine are trashed.

I know this is an old thread, but has anyone had any issues after they removed the caps on the lug nuts? I would like to see some pictures of them if you have them. I had a hell of a time getting some of mine off. I believe the last time I had new tires put on, the shop used an impact wrench and messed up several of the caps. I've replaced a few of them with some used lug nuts that I bought from someone here, but if I can remove the caps and not have any issues, I might do that.

You won't have any issues. Guys with steel wheels run open ended steel nuts and have no issues. I run open ended steel nuts on my spacers and don't have any issues there either.

I just purchased a 27MM and it seams to be too small to fit over the caps. I should have purchased a set. UGH

Range Rover classic lug nuts work great, and don't have the hole in the center showing on the outside. I just picked some up from my mechanic!
