because i already have a 4.0.. so why do they offer oem .20 pistons?

i was just thinking rebuild because we will be doing the work to swap to a distributor anyways.. it has 105k miles has sat alot blah blah

stroking sounds alot more expensive than just boring out and bigger pistons.. but i understand there isnt much room for boring

bucks set up would cost as much as rebuilding this motor.. plus we'd need to find a motor and tranny plus my gf has had 4 surgeries on her left foot.. spending money to put in a tranny with a clutch to screw up her foot kinda seems like a waste.

also isnt a 4.6 just a stroked 4.0 ?

so couldnt the 4.0 be made to a 5.2?

Get a 4.6 crank and pistons from a parts guy. Get new rings blammo you have more power fairly cheap.

That's what I said. You change displacement by changing stroke. There's no room to change the bore due to close proximity of the water jackets.

4.6 is probably the cheapest option or you could install an Eaton supercharger.

Or Atlantic British sells 4.6 GEMS blocks with top hat liners for 5k.

okay.. i think we need new cam to put a gear on it for the distributor .. or will the cam gear fit on the gems cam?

if we need new cam.. and the motor is probably due for timing chain and head gaskets i think we should just rebuild.

i'm probably trading a set of 40 inch tires to have intake and front cover ,ect swapped for the propane.. and i just dont wanta spend money to get it done and then in 2 months have to redo it all because of head gaskets ect

Call D&D D&D Fabrications: Engineering & Fabrication Services and tell them what you're thinking about doing. They sell a kit with a crower cam, tappets, timing chain etc for cheap.. He also sells Pertronix distributor and coil set ups.. You can also email Randy Williams usedroverparts@yahoo.com - to see if he has any 4.6 cranks and pistons. Then you'll need bearings, rings, seals, gaskets the whole shebang.. It's not going to be "cheap" but you can probably git'er done for $1500..

Nope everything if you get a good price on the crank and pistons. Justin at lucky 8 can get you seals, bearings rings etc cheap. Get the good stuff though if all makes make sure it's premier or whatever.
