Default Resurfaced my brush guard

My brush guard has been annoying me with rust starting to show through the plastic coating. The fading coating also needed attention so I took the guard off and started stripping. The plastic is very hard to come off in cooler temps so I used a heat gun and razors. The heat gun helped the plastic come off in large pieces. Once all the plastic was removed, I used a wire wheel to combat the rusted areas. I then cleaned everything up with tar & wax remover and shot it with duplicolor truck bed liner.

The rattle can bed liner works best using the same technique as painting for the first few coats. Once you feel you have it thick enough, go back over it a few times with short burst to really bring the texture out. The short burst really helps the texture come out of the can and on to the guard.

This was hiding under the plastic

Wire wheeled waiting for a scuff sanding

A few coats before the short burst technique

Poor camera doesn't really pick up the texture

Looks good! I tried painting mine only to find out that the plastic was the only thing holding it together. I took the plastic off the croos piece that hold the lights and the metal came with it.

Common failure on that brush guard, looks good for now, but I bet the rust has worked it's way all the way thru for a weaker assembly.
You did a great job on it though.

Looks great!!

I did that same thing to mine when I first got it, you will need to touch it up once a year as it rusts from the inside out from condensation being on the inside.
I removed my lamp guards and plugged the holes for the screws and painted over them.
