Interesting. I'd like the front headlamp conversion...IF it was a bit more specific and someone could verify that these would work. That, and if the price was lower than the cost of stock headlamp assemblies...

Spencerfitch 02-01-2011 10:55 PM

I think the price is fine.. GREAT actually.. Realize this replaces the...

HEADLIGHT 300$
UGLY TRIM 80$
UGLY CHEAP PLASTIC POS BLINKERS. 80$

Yeah, but they want 321USD and won't ship out for the Isles. And can't even give you a picture of the actual product. I guess I'm cheap cause I got my headlamps, trims turn indicators, wiring harness and bulb holders for $150 shipped.
Maybe one of our limey brothers that live near there could swing by their store and check it out for us....

Spencerfitch 02-01-2011 11:40 PM

i really wish.. and i thought it came out to 270$ my b

Heck yea. go down there ask to put them on tour truck or something lol. Tell them slot of people are interested and awaiting pictures!

I wantvso bad to have these I just gotta know what they look like

D1scoDaz 02-02-2011 07:03 AM

I'll see if i can get some proper pictures of them for you.

I can get you whatever you want, but its the shipping that kicks the ar$e out of it (thats a$$ to you guys).
My mate has a spare 300tdi, no gearbox though.
I think an engine alone you can pick up for about £750, gearbox about £200 (manual or auto) I wouldnt like to make a stab at the shipping costs though....

Small things won't be too bad, i can send them as a gift so you shouldnt incur any port taxes. :D

Jull 02-02-2011 07:40 AM

Cool now we have an inside guy!

D1scoDaz 02-03-2011 05:15 AM

HI,
I spoke to Amy in the shop, and she apologises, but that is the only photo she has of the lights.
They're a pukka store though.

XCELLER8 02-03-2011 09:50 AM

I really like the looks of them too, Darren>>>if you have a chance find out what it would take for shipping to the US....I'm sure some of us would be glad to reimburse you for your efforts especially if the seller won't ship to us here...
thanks, Rod

I've just emailed the store for a rough packaged item weight, i should then be able to calculate shipping costs, its usually flat rate across to the US regardless of final destination.
These are pretty expensive units though, £200 each..... thats a lot of dollar!

Rover Chris 02-03-2011 11:17 AM

well people in the states will pay because there simply is very little to no aftermarket upgrade parts here specific for our trucks! I would imagine it would be the same way for Jeep parts for you, you probably have to import most aftermarket jeep parts but we can get hundreds of them here locally!

Spencerfitch 02-03-2011 11:17 AM

I think the price is fantastic! Way cheaper than 03-04 headlamps and trim

Yeah, it's about $321 US for us, but the stock headlamps are $145 each by themselves new. The turn indicator assemblies are $40 each new. The trim is $45 each new. So for us to replace one side(say, if someone hit us or a rock/tree got in the way of one corner) it would cost us $230 before shipping to do one side. If a rock hits a headlamp and busts it, You have to spend $145 plus shipping. With a cheaper(hopefully) round headlamp, replacement could be under $20.
So $321 to replace $415 in parts isn't that bad of a deal. Especially if we sell our used parts to someone else.

Chris-bob 02-03-2011 11:32 AM

A question that hasn't been asked(or maybe I missed it) is how much is a replacement light for the kit going to cost? If it costs an arm and a leg, might as well stick with what I have.

yloDiscoII 02-03-2011 12:26 PM

That Defender-ish headlight conversion IMO is even better than the 03/04 Disco Headlight conversion, much more rare and unique looking. Seems like you almost could do a homemade/poorman's version with some stock headlight assemblies, some paint, and some creativity.

I was actually thinking the same thing, more or less just tape off both areas around the lights, then just cover the whole lite set assembly with foil, then just brush on some fiberglass resin. That would give you the solid piece shaped properly for the area, then just make some mounting brackets and dremel it out to fit new lights in!

Spencerfitch 02-03-2011 01:26 PM

Wow.. I Might just make one!!

I've got 2 cracked headlight assemblies, as soon as I can find some (cheap) replacements I was going to give this project a shot. I was also looking into RRC headlights as a guide. You can keep the blinker the same, just use the spray "tint" to darken them out....it works perfectly in my head:p:D

And...just exactly how many other voices are confirming how it works in your head? :D

See? This post sounded funny in my head...

On a serious note - depending on the tint spray you are using, and how much time you spend masking and taking care while spraying...it certainly seems like it could be fairly effective!

I'm waiting for your write up...I got a bunch of 16gauge stainless I could use...

I had a whole crowd of voices in my head cheering me on ;)

Yeah, my initial idea was just to darken out everything on the assembly but a Defender headlight sized circle, but that would seriously jack up the light output. Then I thought (and I'm not sure how easy it would be) to cut a large hole in the glass, then mount a round light in that, so you wouldn't have to adjust any wiring.

Even something more along the lines of the RRC would look good on a Disco...

no no no yall are doing it all wrong.

Take a peice of sheet aluminum. Cut to dimension to fit over whole headlight and blinker. Bend to shape and coat with sometjing to stiffen.

now add a hole for the light and blinkers.

Spencerfitch 02-05-2011 03:24 PM

Nice!

How thick is the alum sheet you are using? Not sure what you could use to stiffen it, bedliner might help a little, but probably not enough to make a big difference. Will it not be stable enough once you screw it down in place?

This thread just kind of died, so maybe I can revive it with a pic to inspire. This is one of my all-time favorite Disco's.
