does anyone have a part # for the mini jesus clip (retainer) that holds the auto shift lever button in place.....you know....the one that leaves the wife stranded at the market with truck in drive.... and ignition off....and cant start the truck cuz it's in drive....and it's 5 degrees out ....and the wind is blowing at 40mph...and you're at work.....yeah that clip...??

You guys are talking about two different things.
A decent hardware store should have a solution for both.

 

Lol. I went through the exact thing. You're talking about the one on the handle right? I used a c clip with a washer under it.

 

I keep a spare in a ziploc in the glovebox.

 

I used a #16 nail and bent the ends. Works great!

 

E-Clip part number is FRC8708. The pic can give you a rough idea of the size & then just head to the hardware store.

Strelok, either clean the hole for the cotter pin and get a pin that will fit...OR get a new trunnion > Cable Trunnion Automatic Gearshift (Genuine Part # FRC7630 ) - Land Rover cables\levers\parts from Atlantic British

 

yup...shifter handle for me...I put an e-clip on for now....any port in a storm ya know..but it was a little loose..lol
and the "original" was a spring-tab looking retainer that snapped into place and locked over the edge of the plastic....which broke...and fell off.....oh well....gonna keep a couple spares taped there somewhere !

and Strelok.....grease the f@#K out of that trunion....with all the oil flying around under these things you wouldnt think it possible...but a buddy of mine's 97 rusted and broke..sorta ruined that day ..lol

yes ! that's the culprit.....such a seemingly innocent fastener....hardened and spring like....bwhahahaha
