Cool Swivel ball greasing tool

Thought I’d share a trick for greasing your swivel *****. I bought the One-Shot grease and quickly found the grease did not want to go in the fill hole. Much of it pushed out the very hole I was trying to put it in.

For about $7 I came up with a tool. Here’s the parts list:
Pep Boys: FloTool “The MixMizer” $4.98
Home Depot: SharkBite 38/” x ½” MNPT reducing connector $1.98

The MixMizer is basically a syringe used for mixing two cycle motor oil. It even came with a 4” length of tubing.
The SharkBite fitting basically is a brass threaded male to b-a-r-b-e-d(kept getting censored?) adaptor.

Apply Teflon tape to the brass fitting and connect it to the tubing in the syringe. Thread the fitting into the fill hole on the swivel ball, hand tight is sufficient. Fill the syringe with the one shot grease and install the plunger. It took seven syringe fills to empty the one shot tube. Somewhat tedious but it’s a clean process and you can actually get the entire one shot tube emptied into the swivel ball.

Now to the pics!

Note: The grease seen on the housing is from my first attempt without the tool.

How do you even drain/refill your swivels? I should probably do that...

On your truck there is a drain plug on the bottom of the swivel.
They originally came filled with gear lube, thats why there is a drain plug.
They switched to the one shot (grease/gearlube mix also known as "00" grease which can be bought at any lawnmower shop for $5 a pint) because customers were complaining of leaks.
So on yours you drain out the old gear lube, and refill with new gear lube.
On the later model years there is no drain and they came filled with "00" from the factory.
I pump plain old grease into mine every 6 months.
If you turn your wheel all the way out you can miss the CV and get the lube in there pretty easily.

Do a search C, either here or Google, I know that PT sells 1 shot but as Spike said, 00 is the stuff. Oh, Danny Lee did a good write up with pic doc's as well last week, check it out. If I can find it quickly I'll link it.

This does one side.
Swivel Housing Grease - 370 Ml Tube for Range Rover Classic, Steering & Suspension Parts
370ml is .781949 US pints.
So yes, one pint per side keeping in mind that you will never get it all out of the bottle.

I was able to completely empty both tubes.
I thought about even making a fitting with a zerk on it. In the end it was more hassle and more money. Also, the psi involved in using a grease gun should be thought about. Even the small cheap grease guns claim 3600psi. Wouldn't want to blow out a seal while adding grease.

That 3600psi that the grease gun claims...not going to happen unless there is resistance.
Like a u-joint that is old and rusty or clogged with dirt.
If you take a grease gun and with no resistance squeeze the handle the grease will just glob out on the end.
The one shots you can get all of the "00" out of, but not the pint bottles and that is what I meant.

Its not a pint, I thought it was.
