Default Throttle Position Sensor for sale?

Hello Disco 1 peeps,

I am in need of a throttle position sensor for my 1997 Disco 1, 4.0 GEMS, PN ERR4278. The OEM prices are ridiculous for such a simple sensor (400-500 CAD).
Would anyone have one they are willing to sell (parts car, spare parts, etc), or have a cheaper source for those that you recommend?

Cheers all,

Are you 100% certain yours is INOP? They really don't fail on a GEMS setup that often. I can look around in my misc trail spare box and see if I have one in there for ya. They used to be like 30 to 50.00 brand new but I looked and the prices are simply insane!

Yeah, I was surprised too, it's just a simple rotary potentiometer, and my Disco only has 177xxx km too. But I can confirm with both the live data through OBD2 (reads ~97% closed and 99% fully open, which also was causing no-start) as well as reading resistances as various positions with sensor off the plenum that the readings on one side of the potentiometer are stuck and wrong.
Let me know what you find, that'd be greatly appreciated!

I've also considered opening it up to try to fix it or make my own with an off the shelf potentiometer, some CAD and ABS or Nylon 3D printed parts, but there isn't much that can be done on such a simple sensor, and might not be worth the time. Might still try if I find the time.

Maybe go for the Lucky8 option $208 usd made in France land rover box. Do not forget to reset adaptive values after replacement. Otherwise may end up with high revs on start.

To clarify function, the main resistor of the potentiometer should read a constant value, only the wiper terminal should change in relation to position. One potential failure mode is the wiper wears a spot in the main resistor right at idle position, because it spends a lot of time there.

Do you have a link for that $208USD option from Lucky8? The cheapest one I can find there is $291, unless that is in CAD already, but I thought Lucky8 was all in USD.
I'd prefer to find one without spending >~$300, but that FCPEuro option is a little more reasonable at least.

Amazing! Might be a given based on this conversation, but then are you willing to part ways with it and/or sell it to help out a fellow D1 owner? If so, might be best to move to private messages to sort out the details?

Cheers and thanks again for looking into that
