transfer box
hi can any body help i was towing a trailer and had to go from hi to low and lost all drive but it don't feel like its going near any of the hi or low as their is no sounds at all ? been under can see levers moving side to side and front to back but still no drive please help ??????
try putting it in high or low with the vehicle slow rolling(5mph or less). Mine will not shift between high and low if not rolling.
Otherwise, I would see if the driveshafts spin under the truck when in drive. may have a busted spider gear or cv. or try driving with the diff lock locked(but not far on hard pavement)

thanks mate but can not get any drive at all seems like not reaching the hi or low gears can not even feel even a clunk as if its trying to meet the gears do you know if you can remove any covers from inside to see top of trans box????????
so your truck is stuck in neutral? do you hear the chime notification that you are not in gear? you can remove the center console to access the top of the TC if that is what you are looking to do.
Yes, if you remove the center console and remove a metal cover plate by drilling out rivits, you can get to the top of the trans/transfer case.
But no joke, if I shift my t-case to neutral while at a full stop, I can not move the shifter either direction until I get rolling a little

I would not be comfortable with that at all.
thank you to all had center console out and got down to trans box and removed cover on top of trans box 6 bolts and found a lot of play on shaft about a quarter of a turn then moved the selector with a spanner and got hi and low so i think it time for a new shaft or weld the lever to the shaft but back on road and again thanks to all
I dont. I did find though SOMETIMES, if I quckly hit drive then neutral again, I can shift it into low or high not moving. But I just plan ahead and shift it before I come to a full stop.
The RAVE manual has an excellent parts breakdown drawing of the entire assembly. I tried to do a cut and paste but it would not let me.
Download the RAVE and study the mechanism before you go fooling around with it. It may be something really simple that is wornout orweakened from corrosion.
Here's a link to the Rover's North breakdown showing all th various parts and their prices and part numbers and such. I used them exclusively for tearing down and rebuilding the shifter linkage for the CDL function of the transfer case. I replaced all of the low cost items due to the advanced corrosion my 97 had on the linkages. They were immensely helpful in getting together all the little clips, clevis pins, a worn out shift lever arm where the internal splines were shot. With their help, I completely rebuilt my CDL Linkage at a minimum cost by only replacing what was bad. My is still shifting smooth as butter three years later.
I have read some real horror stories of people either beating on them with various things, leaving the linkage engaged when they shouldn't, getting it rolling good and then forcing it to move and those sort of things. I would rather see what I can replace to get it to act right.
Anyway, RN will have everything you most likely need to refresh it properly.
Good Luck and have fun with it.

You do know that you are supposed to have the transmission in neutral to shift the transfer case from high to neutral then to low and the same upshifting. Only shift the TC with the tranny in NEUTRAL.
It sounds like the solenoid on the transfr case is not working properly. That is what prevents you from shifting high to low or vice versa except in neutral. If it is malfunctioning, I think that is the most likely cause of your problem. Cannot say absolute but very good candidate.
