Is there anything electrical that can keep the auto trans from going into gear? I plugged the wiring in that allows you to shift out of park when the brake is applied but is there something else that doesn't allow it to engage even though you have put it in gear? I think I have the transfer case shifting now but when I put it in gear nothing happens. I don't hear a change in idle or anything. Almost like the auto trans cable is unhooked but it isn't, I checked it.

No that's cool, you don't know me so asking the simple stuff is most logical (is there gas in it?). I appreciate you trying to help me, I hoped for more people chiming in

Anyway no I'm not sure this case is good but I did buy it off somebody that said they drove on it for a while and appears to be a respectable member and specializes in land rovers. And yes the drive shafts are in. You would think even if the transfer case was in neutral I'd still be able to hear something when I switched into drive. I'm almost positive I'm getting the transfer case to switch gears now though. I'm beginning to think I disabled something with the trans when I installed the T-case.

OK! I just got back out there and checked the cable to the trans again. I got the wife to move the shifter back and forth while I watched it. Looks like my buddy that helped me install this took the little block loose that holds the cable on the bottom near the trans. So when you move the shifter the sleeve just slides up and down the cable instead of shifting it into gear. Doh!!! Damn I do feel dumb now. I don't have time to test it tonight but I'll let you know how it is tomorrow.

Thanks again for your help

You may have the typical shift solenoid, on top of your t/case, failure. When that happens, it will not allow the t/case to shift past neutral.

I'm pretty sure I have it shifting now but I'm thinking about removing that solenoid anyway. I just worry about my wife or kids driving it like that though.

Funny you mention that. I got it going drove it down the road. When I got back I turned it off and hooked the Hi Lo linkage up on the Tc. Now it will only let me put it in reverse. No neutral, no drive, no lower gears, just reverse. Looks like the shifter is locking me out. I unhooked the linkage for the Tc but still nothing but reverse. God I hate this POS,

check the fluid level in the trans, most cars auto trans when low will only go in reverse

check the trans fluid with the engine running

check the trans shift linkage for binding maybe got pinched or bent during the repair?

if the brake pedal it unlocking the shifter to go into reverse it should go into all gears I would think

I checked it while running but it said to check it cold. It appears to have plenty.

I can see the cable and linkage (the shifter isn't bolted down yet) and it appears to be OK.

I was thinking the same but it appears to be locking me out. It's hard to tell though. I ended up getting mad and started banging the shifter aganst the floor and it started working again lol. Maybe a rivet I drilled out or something else got stuck in there somewhere. I'm thinking about disabling the lock on the TC and the Auto shifter. The mechanical lock will still be there so I'm not worried about it getting bumped into reverce on the hwy. I can't get the linkage set because of all these freaking locks. It's going to be an off road truck most of the time anyway.
