Default Transfer Case Shifter rebuild

Hey guys, yes another stuck shifter thread. But I think I have a unique question:

A year ago I posted on here that for whatever reason, once my transmission/transfer case warmed up, I couldn't shift out of high and into low. If it was cool, no issues at all, but once it got hot, something was seizing and it wouldn't even go into neutral.

Anyway, I finally got around to taking it apart. My plan was to just take the solenoid out since I figured that is what was seizing.

3 things: 1. there has always been a lot of play in the shifter. 2. it hasn't gone into Diff lock in so long I forgot it existed 3. the throw into low is very, very short.

I get it open and this is what I find:

So I obviously need a few parts. First being that nylon washer that should be there allowing diff lock engaging. Which also explains all the play in the shifter.

But what about the very short throw into low? is that common? I mean, once it is in, it tends to stay in. But it just seems to not be right. It is a fairly long throw out of high into neutral. But neutral to high is just a little click. Is there adjustment that needs to be done?

Also, any tips on replacing that nylon washer? I know I have a lot more to take apart now, which I am not looking forward to....

Anyway, thanks for any help.

Edit: Forgot to ask, anything else I need to order when I order that nylon piece?

I didn't want to start a whole new thread, so hopefully, someone will catch this.

I took everything apart, greased and reassembled. Everything is working just fine now. However, my diff lock light will not go off. The Diff lock hadn't been engaged in years, that seized up a long time ago. But now, it all shifts easily.

But, the light is on, and stays on. Upon starting the car for the first time after reassembling, the light was on. I know that the diff lock was in the disengaged position, I went through all the shifts multiple times. But once I started the car, the light is on and won't go off. I have shifted in and out, reversed, all the tricks. But nothing. Thing is, the car never moved when it was in the locked position, hell the engine wasn't even running. So, bad sensor? What should I do?

Thanks

The diff lock shift is not stuck. That's what I meant. It is clicking back and forth easily and without issue. I made sure of it and greased everything liberally before reinstalling the console. And I can still feel it clicking in and out of engagement now that I have out everything back together.

The plunger on the end of the unit is likely stuck.

Huh, ok. So, the actual switch that the linkage attaches to has a plunger at the end that is probably stuck?

That would be why the linkage easily clicks the top part back and forth without issue?

Thanks dude, guess I'm taking things back apart.
