Default Weird rim issue

So on my new to me Disco, I took it down to the local tire shop for a new set of shoes. 4/5 went on great, the 5th one... not so much. They blew up 4 tires trying to get it to seat on the rim. The rim itself has an extra lip on the inside of the barrel, and it was causing MAJOR issues. They have the rim at the shop still, as I had to get back to work (2.5 hours there!) Other than sourcing a new rim, what are my options? Grinding down the lip? (it has a hard edge, a couple mm thick)

They all have that lip. It's there on purpose to help keep the bead sealed if off road. It shouldn't be a problem. Maybe they need to lube it up before installing the tire.

Like I said, the other 4 went on smooth, this one is just nuts. It feels way more pronounced than the others.

It's had a tire on it before, right? It's a design feature.

Stock alloys??
Sometimes the stock alloys flake and can cause sealing issues. Did they clean up the surface before mounting?

Did they lube it up? Soapy water? Maybe something like this: Murphy's Euro White Tire Mounting Paste Alloy Wheel Mount

Yup, like I said, all the others were fine, this one, the lip seems like it's higher, more pronounced, and just wouldn't let the tire slip on. It literally blew the sidewall out in 2 spots. The poor guy airing it up about **** himself.

And yes, it had a tire on it before, stock 16" alloys. They lubed it up like mad, and all 5 guys tried mounting a tire on it, since the first guy said he was done with it, and went to lunch

Lip is to keep tires on bead when aired down, I had some trouble getting my tires off but no issues mounting them

I always do the tire soap on tire bead for mounting

Post some pics when you get the wheel back. What kind and size of tires are they installing?
