Default Welcome to LR ownership...

So, I've wanted one of these for a long time. Finally took the plunge.
1998 D1 LSE with 173k km, no

Here are the things that I'm tracking down/fixing/troubleshooting:
  • Electrical short somewhere on the 20amp Sidelight circuit.
  • intermittent ABS chatter when braking at low speed
  • Sunroof motor - front
  • Sunroof tracks - front
  • Rusted out rain gutters at all 4 corners
  • Seat switch mounting plates
  • Replace plenum cowl
  • Replace Left Front indicator
  • Back up lights not working
  • Replace 2 post-cat O2 sensors
  • Windshield leak
  • Replace interior carpet set
  • Oil pan gasket leaking
  • Front diff leaking
  • Power steering box leaking
Plus I have to do the 60K Major Service...but I'm having fun, so far.

Looking good, no?

Wow; good luck. Are you thinking of parting it out? I could use some more parts. You would probably make out better to sell off the parts than rebuild.

Not thinking of selling at all. I paid $1600.00 for it and have a 'wife approved' budget of $5k for repairs/upgrades.
I doubt that getting it in good repair is going to cost me $3400.00 in parts...

Besides, it's a third vehicle for me...I don't need it to be 100% right away.

To solve the ABS issue remove the ABS pump fuse from the fuse box under the hood.
Remove and clean out your axle breathers, if they are clogged it will cause pressure to build up inside the diffs and they will leak.
The breathers rust and the air cannot escape.
The power steering system uses Dexron III, buy a quart of ATF with stop leak and use that to top off the system, most of the time the leak will stop.

Welcome to the adventure that is Land Rover! I got mine with a hole in the engine block and many other issues. I didn't get it because I wanted to have a truck I could sell for a profit. I got it because I always wanted one, and cost is not a factor, I like the adventure of what's next to fix! 3600 miles on the rebuild and running strong! Good luck!

Congrats on the purchase and welcome to the family!
It seems some have lost their enthusiasm or forgot that most don't buy these to turn a profit...me thinks getting their Rovers dirty again might help.
