Today I met up with a couple buddies I went to high school with and took the Disco out for a little wheeling and snapped a few cell phone pics. I must say that I am very impressed with Treadwright Wardens. The Rover on 32s held its own against a locked jeep on 35s. The 4 runner I went with was a complete beast and could swallow the Disco whole. By the end of the day my buddy that built the 4 Runner offered up a 14 bolt rear end and Dana 44 front out of Suburban and the very enticing offer of putting them under the rover with a johnny jointed triangulated 4 link front a back Time to start saving!

 

That looks fun, and that Toyota looks amazing. I think just his wheel and tire set up is worth more than my disco.

 

Do you have terrafirma springs and shocks in your disco?

 

I do. MD TF kit. Longer shocks would have helped a ton but I don't think I'm going to buy anything else and just save to put the full width axles under it on some 35" or 37" tires. The Toyota is a monster. Coil overs, fuel injected 350, 40" tires, 14 bolt rear dana 70 front, etc... It rained for 2 straight days prior to this and the clay was SLICK and that truck went through everything he threw at it.

 

What beadlocks are on the yota? I dig the 40" stickies. I want a set in 37s for my disco but they are like $600 each.. Triangulated 4 link on the front of a disco? Good luck! And the stock rear triangulated 3 link is fine on a rover just need loner Johnny jointed arms and an a arm extension like the QT unit that has a heim.

Nope, sways are on. Jake, I am a complete rookie when it comes to off road suspension but he crawled up under the Disco and said he could have it sitting on the Suburban axles for less than 1500. Now I have the idea stuck in my head. Plus I can only imagine that geared and set up properly 37s on the Disco would be hard to stop. The yota is running 17" Pro comp wheels that he welded the bead locks on. Not sure what the rings are but they have toyota logos in them and look damn cool!

 

I replied to your other thread. I dont doubt he could have a 14 bolt under your truck for less that $1400 but is that with a locker?..

I am going to go weld on beadlocks on my rims too. I'm thinking then next set of tires will be 37x12.50x15 pitbull rockers.. And my truck stops the 35's fine with D90 brakes but I also dont daily drive my truck.. Although I have drove it 12 hours round trip to the wilds and back.

 

Ian, your truck looks good. A few things to point out/ask, though.
Do you want your Disco to look like that Yota, fenders cut and full exo-skeleton? Does the Yota owner drive or trailer his truck everywhere?
Did the $1500 price tag include springs, driveshafts, radius and trailing arms, and panhard rod? As Jake mentioned you'll need D90 brakes to stop that pig which is another $400.
There's a lot you can do with a properly set up D1 on 32's or 33's. Add a locker and you'll go even farther. And you'll still be able to drive your truck down the road.

 

How do you know where lockers will get you? You get that Arb in yet you slacker?
