Default Whistling Help

Got a strange whistle that comes and goes. Usually starts sometimes when I accelerate then stops when I take foot off pedal.
It is not a noise that occurs all the time, but enough to be annoying. I checked for vacuum leaks etc......none.

Any advice is appreciated.

Cheers,
Eoghan

"Dr... I have a pain somewhere..." a few details may help us help you my good man.

What year, make, model, engine, transmission, miles and how long have you owned this fine piece of Euro-engineering?

Maybe he thinks all discos are the same. If so, he should probably go read the that other thread we are participating in.

I accept your rebuke on my lack of info. Mine is a 97 Discovery SD with a 4 speed auto and the V8I. At 150,000 miles as of today.

Cheers,

Do you have any pictures of the whistling sound?

sorry about that...

This sound could be anything from the engine to a driveline vibration somewhere between the wheels to the transmission and anything in between when it is under load (acceleration). Grab a willing partner and head to an area where you can run a few test laps with the helper along side your truck and maybe they will be able to pinpoint the area where the noise is coming from. front or back, left or right...

sorry for the lack of helpful answers...

I think intake leaks are pretty common, especially on the older 3.9l (which you don't have)

How did you check and rule out the vacuum leak? Spray it with carb cleaner?

My mechanic checked foor vacuum leak. It is odd, it doesnt occur all of the time it will come and when I let off the fuel it goes away, or if I dont let off it will go away a few secs later. It is extremely irritating. I just got the wind screen repaced today $550 USDand my fuel sending unit is making my check engine go on....starting to wonder what I got into.

The whistling, it isnt a squeak...well it might be to some...but it sounds morelike wind breaking over something, only louder. It comes from the drivers side front. I am going to lube and check fluids undernneath today and see but I doubt its that.

Cheers,
Eoghan

Check for restrictions on your air intake horn.

Maybe it just enjoys a good tune, I break into a good whistle myself every now and then, hoot and holler sometimes as well for no obvious reason, just the nature of the beast.
