Default Wiper problem...

So I've got a wiper problem as of the last time it rained/snowed, my wipers no longer want to function properly in intermittent. they won't stop at the bottom and they take about 3 cycles to go up and back down. they work in the other modes though, but again won't stop at the bottom consistently when you turn em off. what could be the problem? there was alot of ice the day it started, could it be from that? other thought is from the water leak from my new windshield (damn place can't get it right) on the right side pillar, that possibly have a way to kill em? thanks in advance for the help.

Yes, that one.
You can replace it yourself pretty easy.

How would that make it stop in the wrong spot? Wouldn't that just make em not turn on?

I dont know.
Check for power at the wiper motor and see if it has power once the wipers stop, no power then bad switch.

This may be a better a better question, does the switch control the motor directly or is there some sort of relay or something that deals with the timing?

I have no idea.
That is a very good question and something that I had never thought about.

Nope, no relay. (I searched quick)
So it has to either be the switch, wiper motor, wiper transmission or the body control unit.
I do not think the multifunction relay controls the wipers.

If it was the body control I'd be experiencing other problems correct? So it seams right then that the switch could be going out. Common problem? I may check out the junk yards and see what I can find tomorrow.

Yes the switch is the most common problem.
