'00 Transfer case into an '03
So I have read a lot of threads here on swapping a transfer case into an '03 which is what I have. I have an opportunity to get an '00 transfer case locally. I am wondering if I should hold out for an '04. My current transfer case is leaking and would be happier adding the cdl then just fixing the leaks.
I believe I read that the '04 will work better with the traction control system. Is that correct? Should I hold out for one?
Also, is the '00 a direct swap? Or would it need to be altered or adapting to fit into an '03?

What is a TSB? It's funny you mention sensor errors as I am getting faults from both front wheel speed sensors, but to visual inspection they are fine.

As jafir said, both the '03 and '04 SLABS are programmed to work with CDL engaged. Neither will trigger the Three Amigos if the truck is restarted with the CDL engaged as will happen if an earlier SLABS is used.
The '03 version is part umber SRD000150. The '04 version is supposed to be SRD500070, but I've seen '04s with SRD000150 instead. SRD500070 is reputedly the pinnacle or Holy Grail of DII SLABS but nowhere have I been able to find anything purporting to explain the differences between the two. I personally pulled an SRD000150 from an '04 that's now in my truck. I was hoping and expecting to find an SRD500070. Bummer. And last week I saw one in a complete package of ECU, cluster, and SLABS at a dismantler pulled from an '04 that had an SRD000150.
The bottom line: You'll be fine with the SLABS already in your '03.

I grabbed a "holy grail SRD500070" unit out of an 03 with a date of 11/06 on it for 20.00!! To bad I can't use it right now as it's got fault codes stored in it. I thought an ABS Amigo would clear it but everyone is telling me the codes must be cleared at the LR Dealership.
I installed it and I had 4 warning lights Brake, HDC, TC, and ABS. I've heard that 03/04 SLABS actually would trigger 4 warning lights vs 3 in the earlier SLABS. I just couldn't get a definite answer on how to clear the stored fault codes so I removed it and reinstalled the earlier SLABS unit.
A 99/00/01 D2 should have the CDL nipple on the transfer case. You can either install the newer SLABS or modify the wiring. My late D2 doesn't have a CDL nipple but my late 01 Kalahari (sold as an 02) does. Once I get the fault code situation solved I'll just install an 04 Linkage and call it a day.
