10.4 hours to change an engine sure seems low. I see if I can get those hours confirmed tomorrow and post.

I dont know if ANYONE is still reading this post, but my 03 just went, and I just got the truck 6 months ago and still owe 7 grand. I have found a website that is investigating the 03s blowin up www.hbsslaw.com/LandRover. I dont know what they can do, but they say if you have EVER owned a 03, to contact them, you may be able to get some of your money back even if you dont own the truck anymore. I know I dont have 12 grand to buy a NEW engine, wish I would have found you guys BEFORE I put my FAMILY into this DEATHTRAP!!

Default Ticking sound from engine.

Hey Mike,

With the gas prices of late about a year ago i decided to no longer run 92 octane in my 2001 Rover Discovery II and use the low grade 87 octane. Why? Well my father kept saying to me that it made no difference to run 87 and it was a bunch of bull that if i did not use 92 it would ruin my truck.

Well, unfortunately my dad recently passed and now i have this knocking noise. And upon reading the manual it even has a paragraph that states if i run less than 92 the engine might develop a knocking or metallic tapping sound. Which the vehicle now does.

Its not a real loud noise. But anyway, i obviously need to go back to the 92. Is it fine for me to add some techron into the system? Is it perhaps something other than a low octane gas issue? Have i caused permanent damage?

ANy thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Gordon

the engine was setup (timed/tuned) to run on 92 octane gas. when you run 87 for a long period of time, the setup will readjust overtime to the 87 octane gas (decreasing performance thus decreasing gas mileage).

start using 92 again.

a tank of 92, a few drive cycles where you drive the whole range, from nice and slow to all out, a few beers afterwards and call me in the morning.

dont call me in the morning but you get the idea
