Its just the head gaskets. Did you ever think HGs would be good news? But compared to a cracked block, 'head gaskets only' sounds great. Plus now I can call both of the rebuild engine shops and tell them I don't need their services (so they stop calling "just to check on me".) Actually both guys have been quite helpful and have answered several questions.

While the Rover specific mechanic is in there I'm having him update the plugs and the wires as Disco Mike recommends. I have to look at the rest of the list to see what else has to be done.
