Default 0445 is gone now 0442 said hi. evap help.

SO i had an 0445 which is the EVAP major leak. I replaced the gas cap which is one of the things the RAVE CD suggests. However i got some P.O.S. locking cap from PartsGeek and once it was on it wouldn't unscrew (yes it was unlocked, im not that retarded) So after several attempts to get it undone both locked and unlocked i took the old trusty hammer and screwdriver to it and broke off the lock and top bit. I have been driving around with just the bottom screwed in which seems to unscrew and screw fine i just use pliers forced outward to loosen and tighten in. ghetto i know. So two questions. One where can i get a good gas cap replacement, and secondly why the hell do i have an 0442 EVAP minor leak error after 300 miles of driving with the base of a POS gas cap. do you think a new gas cap will rid my EVAP woes, or am I doomed... thanks in advance trusty forum crew.

Atlantic British sells a good gas cap for about $30. It is what I used and it fixed my old evap leak. Hopefully it will work for you.

Roverland Parts has gas caps for $15 if you want a cheap one that says LR on it. I do believe though that any sealed gas cap from the auto parts store will work fine.
