700 miles round trip.
I drove 65mph with the a/c on and I got 24mpg for that trip.
2 weeks later my pregnant wife and I took the kids to the Cleavland Museum of Natural History, again 700 miles round trip.
Cruise at 65, a/c on, 22 mpg.
That was with Rotella 15w-40 in the engine, Denso Iridium spark plugs, Duralast plug wires, Michelin LTX M/S tires at 40 psi, a cheap paper air filter and 85w-140 gear lube in both diffs and the t-case and Shell Premium in the gas tank.

As a daily driver a person can expect 15 mpg, a Jeep Cherokee with the V8 is around 16mpg.
The Jeep Rubicon 4-door with the I-6 gets 16.
The Ford Explorer with the V8 is around 16, Escalade, 14, Suburban, 14.
The Discovery is a 4500lb full time 4x4 with a small V8, its not going to be fast or great on gas but it will get you anywhere in the world.

Bone stock 99 D2 se7 loaded. I get 11 in town. 15-16 on the highway over the mtn pass, not sparing the horses. O2's replaced, synthetic fluids, paper air filter.
Always run premium fuel!!! I do this regaurdless of price. A light foot will give you best results, try to time the stop lights. If I see a red light ahead, I slow down long before using the brake is neccesary, I roll through alot of them when they turn green.
Perform Mike's service on your "new-to-you" Rover, this will give you the best chance at higher MPG's.
