Default 1995 disco $750

So when i bought my 1996 discovery i sold my Jeep to a friend, well he got it impounded last week and it's still in my name, so while my classy friend sits in jail i get wind of my poor jeep being held captive. Naturally i went to retrieve my vehicle, if for nothing else to give back to my friend when he gets out. ha, o the things i do! any way, when i got the thing the owner of the place (who was a surprisingly nice man) asked about my rover. we talked and he started bragging about the great deal he got on a 95 for his wife and all it needed was a oil pump. because it was tapping or something. he said it runs well just makes that noise. he said he got it for like $500. but he didn't know that it was so hard to get parts and he didn't want to jack with it, so when he gets time he was going to fix it for her. then before i left i asked if he was interested in selling it and if i could take a look at it. he said ya he'd have to ask his wife and i could look at it. it looks good on the outside but the inside is a little messy. tear in the seat and headliner. you know the drill. i don't know a lot about it. it's got sunroofs (mine doesn't) and looks better on the outside than mine comparable on the inside (seats and headliner are worse). it has 156000 on the clock and it seems to me that i could use a lot of the parts from it if nothing else. He said he'd give it to me for $750. and i said i'd come look at it and see how it ran and stuff. is this worth my time? it's 45 minutes to drive out there.

should i drive it if it needs a oil pump

what should i look for?

oh, and there are 2 practically new tires on the front.

Man, for $750 how can you pass it up?
It's got $2000 in parts.
It might not actually need a oil pump, he is just speculating because of the ticking.
Look it over, check the oil level, drive it. If it runs and drives then it is all good.
Even if it does blow up you still have $2000 in parts.

This seems like a no brainer. For $750 buy it. It's worth a lot more than that and with a little work you could possibly sell it for a profit if you choose to. But the individual parts are worth more than the car whole so that is another way to go.

My 94' ticks like nothing else, I have come to determine that it is not the oil pump or anything like that but the lifters. When I do the heads I am changing out the lifters and rocker arms at the smae time, that should take care of it.

I say buy it and then deal with everything else that you think is wrong with it.

The ticking sound could also be caused by an exhaust leak. My engine started ticking and when I took it in for head gaskets the mechanic found my driver exhaust manifold cracked in 3 places. He replaced the manifold with a used one he had on the shelf (didn't even charge me for it) and I have not noticed the ticking sound since. He inspected my lifters and rocker arms while the heads were off and said they were all in good shape.
