1995 Disco running issues

Greetings all. I am the proud new owner of a 95 Disco and a 96 Disco (parts truck). I am having lots of trouble searching the forums for this problem, I hope someone here can help me out. At idle, the 95 runs very poor. I have changed plugs, wires, cap, rotor, filters, but no change in the symptom. Also, the display on the diagnostic box is showing no codes. Is there a procedure for turnung it on?

Also, is there a new owner FAQ section here? I couldn't find one.

Hard to say but you may have a vacuum leak.
Get a can of carb cleaner B-12 and with it running spray it over the
vacuum lines stay away from the Dist cap and spk wires.
The motor will idle up when or if you find the leak.

Thanks for the idea. I checked this previously, but no leak found. I am suspecting the Idle Control Valve. Anyone have a history of them going bad?

Also, the diagnostic display now works and is giving me code 48. Any ideas?

I'm having mine replaced today as a mater of fact ( idle control valve). Was experiencing a surge of power and drop of power at idle and the occasonal need to restart becuse it would die on me.

RE: 1995 Disco running issues

Code 48 is stepper motor related. Chances are you need to cleanthe stepper motor and regrease it so the plunger can move in and out freely. Reinstall the stepper motor and see if it's better. If it's not, you may need to adjust the base idle. I thought my stepper motor was bad and bought a new one and still kept on getting code 48 every 5 hours. I checked for vacuum leaks and couldn't find any, but decided to change all of the vacuum hose and 't' body pcv valve. That helped a bit and the code 48 would return every3 days or so. Iwas going to buy a new stepper motor, but decided to readjust the base idle first. After readjusting the base idle, code 48 hasn't return for over1 week now. The truck even idlesbetter than before. If youwant to know how to adjust the base idle, feel free to ask me. Adjusting the base idle isn't hard, but it is a real pain in the butt.

We don't want people using the new area for questions, that is what this area is for.
Here is a link for your codes.

Good luck,

RE: 1995 Disco running issues

Update,

After monkeying around a while, I unplugged the MAF sensor. Instantly, it ran nearly perfect. I am guessing that this indicates a bad MAF, unless unplugging it also eliminates something else from the system.

Also, when I removed the idle stepper, the plunger would not move, I assumed this was normal but is it?
