Hello Everyone! My name is Jeremy and I have a 1995 Discovery. I was driving home from a trip and my oil light came on. I continued to drive another 100 miles with it on but parked it as soon as I made it home. I don't know what causes this, so I really hope someone can give me insite and directions. I have done a little research pointing towards the oil pump, pressure sensor (?), one costing around 15 bucks the other 1300! What do I need to do to fix or figure out whats going on........please can someone help me. I do work on all my vehicles so I hope this is something I can do. Thank you!

Let me get these out of the way before everyone else wakes up...
You saw your oil light come on and then drove 100 miles?!?! At least you stopped right away when you got to your home.
With that out of the way I would say it is either your pump or the sensor. Leaning towards sensor because of your trial by fire. I would check your oil pressure though.

You either need a gauge which is not that expensive. Backing up how is your oil level? Do you change your oil regularly? If you do have low pressure it could be a number of things from a bad pump to a clogged oil uptake screen. give people a few hours to awake for some more thoughts. Spike has a DI so I'm sure he will chime in shortly.

Well it is not the oil pump going bad because if it was your engine would have SIEZED AND YOU WOULD BE BUYING A NEW ONE in less than 10 miles.
Replace the oil pressure sending unit, go to AutoZone and have them order you one, then youi can change it yourself.
It is located right above the oil filter, unplug it, unscrew it, you will need a big wrench, then replace it with the new one, plug it back in.
30 min job because it is hard to reace and you can only unscrew it one half turn at a time.

Just to clarify for future reference.
RED means DANGER
Amber means CAUTION.
So anytime a RED idiot light comes on that means DANGER STOP THE TRUCK NOW.
Anytime a amber idiot light comes on that means caution, there is a problem but it is ok to drive for a short time.
The oil light is RED.
