Default 1996 Disoc 1 Diff Lock Question

i have a 1996 disco 1 with a sticky diff lock. I have taken off the two boots and have oiled every thing i can see but the diff lock is still sticky. I can get the transfer case in to high and low but i can't lock the diff. What else can I do?

There is a solenoid that will keep it from locking, it might be bad.

how can you tell if it is and where is it located. Would that be keeping me from even getting it in to the diff lock position?

www.discoweb.org, click the tech link, there is a CDL solenoid install link. Not sure how to tell if it is good or bad.

If you have not used the diff lock regularly the shifting rods under the truck will rust up and make it hard to shift.

If you let it go to long you will have to take everything apart and clean the rods.

Yours still move so you maybe able to spray penetrating oil on the rods and work the shifter slowly don't force it,,
good luck.

This may be fairly obvious, but try changing the transfer case oil. Old gear oil is not going to help keep everything moving smoothly.

Cheers,
