1999 DII whining
I've noticed in the past few days that my Disco has been whining. It has been whining from what seems to me a drivetrain issue. When i acceralerate the whining starts and stays whenever it has been under more than 1400 Rpm's. Any ideas. I had changed the tranmission filter and fluids less than 15,000 miles and plan to do the diffs this week. Anyone have any ideas on what it could be before i bring it in. Thanks

Changed the pully assembly and tensioner in Feb. I dont have ACE. Its sounds to me like the front of the engine. So when i get home tonight im going to use a screw driver to check the bearing on the A/C, Alt. And idler. See if its any of those. If not the only other thing i could think of is the tranmission or transfer box. bc as the car get going faster it get alot louder. Thanks

Do you get any vibration along with it? Might want to check the front drive shaft where it hooks to the t/case. See if both the c-v joints in the constant velocity housing have grease fittings, if not get them changed yesterday, they can blow and take out your tranny.

Man...I need to drive or ride in a 99 disco II that sounds the way it should. I never know what noises are normal and what's not. I have a constant whine in my drivetrain. But it sounds more like 2000lbs of metal churning and whining all the time.

Yea that probably not the best thing...
May what to get that checked out...Thats kinda what my water pump sounds like right now just went down hill quick. You may be lucky and find out its another pulley like the tensioner pulley bc that went on me and was making a slight whining noise. If you put a screw driver on the bolt to the pulley and put you ear to the handle of the screw driver you can hear of that bearing is shot. If that helps any.
Now, does anyone know how to change a water pump or is that something that should be left to a mechanic.

The water pump is very straight-forward to replace. You might want to read my tech info section at www.eurotekapg.com for tips on what to look for. I have the parts in stock at a good price if you are looking for a supplier.
