Default 2 weeks into ownership.......

Blown head gasket and stuck valve. Haven't even had a chance to take it off the pavement yet. My Rover is back at the place I bought it at, and they are going above and beyond what I expected, to get me back on the road ASAP. Hopefully, I'll have it back sometime next week. Just waiting on the machine shop to resurface the heads and reseat the valves, and whatever else they need to do. It's going to feel weird going from the loaner car with my butt a foot off the ground to sitting way up in the clouds again.

That's a rough start. Hope repairs go well, for you

Seems like you bought it from an honest dealer; I'm glad its an inconvenience and not a horror story.

That's why I bought from them and not off the street. I talked to them for quite a while about my interest in getting a Land Rover, and my concerns. They have a mechanic on star that is very familiar with Land Rovers also. I felt very comfortable buying from them, and will be using them to service my Rover, even though they are 45 minutes out of the way.

Just got my Rover back today. They did a complete top end rebuild and valve job. It took an extra week because one of the head bolts was stripped and a new sleeve had to be inserted. The machine shop had to order the tool for that. I also had them replace the thermostat with a 180 t-stat. Now my temps are staying at 188-190 instead of 215-225. All that work ended up at just under $850.

Although the cost of $850 seems very reasonable, do you mean that you actually had to pay that amount to them to rectify the defective truck?

It was sold as is. They waived the labor cost, about $1600, plus gave me a loaner vehicle while they fixed it. The truck ran perfectly when I purchased it and drove it for 2 weeks. Just bad luck for the head gasket.

$850 is definitely a steal for that work.

I'd say you got lucky!

Yep, thats very reasonable since you bought as is, a lot of used car dealers wouldn't do that. I think a typical headgasket job (no valve work) is around $1500-2000.
