Default 200 cdl shifter linkage ?

I have a 2000 Disco 2 and want to install the linkage for the CDL. I found the shaft on top of the transfer case and used a 10mm to assure that it was there and functioning. I have no dash light to confirm the lock so I am assuming that either the sensor or light or both were omitted as well from this era Disco? The kit offered by Lucky8 runs around 500 but I found a link to a 2004 Disco linkage at Roverland for less. I watched the youtube install video from Lucky8. What does the kit from Lucky8 include that the OEM part does not(mounting bracket maybe)? For those of you in the know, what is the most budget conscious way to go about installing a linkage for my CDL?

Thanks,
Joe

I picked up a D1 shifter at a junk yard for $30..it was a PITA to install but any lever will be. If I had it to do all over again I would drill a hole next to the 4hi/lo shifter and fab up some kind of 3/8 drive extension with a 10mm socket so i could just twist a **** and engage/disengage CDL.

I think if you check that shifter is "out of stock" at Roverland. if you find one anywhere near that price please let me know.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the light should come on when you lock it.. Right?

If I remember correctly from the manual, yes. I read that they will lock it during service sometimes, and if you see the light they left it locked and to return to the dealership.

Well, I reviewed the owners manual and it does say the diffy light should come on but mine is not. It also sais that when the diff lock is engaged traction controll is supposed to be disabled. I went out and flipped what I believe is the diff lock. It is located directly on top of the front output shaft on the transfer case right? Anyway I can distinctly feel 3 detents in the shaft rotation basically about an eighth turn apart. It feels like there is a 10mm tab machined in the shaft for the linkage. Is unlocked with the 10mm tab parallel with the driveshaft and locked almost perpendicular? I can hear the mechanism in the transfer case engage and disengage while I turn the shaft. Anyway no diff lock light and traction controll will still engage. Please help, now I'm confused!

If you engage diff lock while the engine is not running it disables TC. If you engage it while the engine is running TC stays on if I remember right. It wont work without the CDL light being operational
