Don't quote me but I think the D1 engines where GEMS, while the D2 engines where BOSCH, and I would be willing to be that the 2005+ LR3 (Discovery 3) has a whole new or otherwise different engine.

You're referring to engine management. up until 96ish was GEMS, after was Bosch, and it's the Rover V8 you'll find in all DIIs in the states. Or the Land Rover TD5 across the pond.

Why are you asking?????????????????????
All Rover v-8's up thru the 04's were basicily the old Buick 215 engine built 50 years ago then sold to Rover to build after GM no longer used them.

The 2005 Discovery 3 (LR3) has a Jaguar V8 and in 2006 they added a Ford V6... but I assume that's not really what you are asking.

In North America the model years are: 94-99 Discovery Series 1, 99-04 Discovery Series 2, 05-09 LR3, 09+ LR4

There are 2005 Discovery II's in the ROW. I think he's not from the US... I know a guy in New Zealand with an 05 DII HSE.

Yeah, there are 1998 D2's too. And I think you could get the RRC all the way up to 1998. We never get the cool stuff.
