The D2 Owner's Handbook says to shift the transfer case to neutral at 5mph, so it hardly seems likely for that to be the maximum speed for low range.

That sticker is telling you the speed at which to shift.

The sticker is just saying to go under 5 mph when shifting into low.

When shifting. Into low or into high.

What I understand is 5 mph / 8 kph is LR's guidance on their sticker for SHIFTING from non-CDL to CDL (or vice versa) or going from Hi-Low. This is to ensure the gears will mesh "cleanly", prevent unnecessary undue gear teeth breakage from sudden CDL shifting.... as well as minimizing over-rev'ing with sudden Hi to Lo shifting.

An old timer at our LR club recently advised keeping revs at CDL - LO gear operation below 2,500 rpms if possible. This is to prevent overheating the transfer case gears with prolonged overheating.

I am somehwat new to LRs and offroading .... love to hear everyone's thoughts...

Default Interlock

Great guidance so far thanks. Think I've pinned it down to the t case interlock solenoid. I got the console out and all 4 bolts loose on the solenoid cover before it started raining. Pretty big PITA especially for my gigantic freak hands. I plan to just delete it and it would make reassembly much easier if I could find or make a flat cover instead of one that sticks up. Any ideas are welcome.

A tip... I replaced the rivets for the center console plate with these screws from Home Depot. They are just the right length and do not stick out too much underneath. Provides convenient access just in case you need it in the future.

No chastising or beating down intended Richard. Your advice is generally spot on so I needed to question what didn’t jive with my understanding in this case.
