Default 2000 Discover II Towing Help

New to this forum, but I like what I have seen. My wife has a 2000 Discovery II SD7. I am thinking of towing with it, nothing to serious. Was wondering the following.

1. Towing Capacity that will not kill my LR
2 Recommended Trailer Mount? (I know that this can increase or decrease towing capacity)
3. We do have the retracting step below the back bumper will this be in the way of the mount when installed?
4. Who installs mounts in Phoenix metro area that does a good job at a great price?

Thanks

So what are you thinking about towing?
I have heard some people say they have towed over 6000#'s with their Disco.
I have towe a loaded 12", double axle trailer with no problem.
You can go on line to Rover Connection or DAP and find a dactory hitch or go to your local hitch shop and get some quotes for a class C hitch.
You will need to get a wiring conversion package to hook into your trucks tire harness in the right rear qt. panle below the tail lights.

I purchased the towing wiring harness for my 2000 Disco from the local dealer for about $120. Fitted it in about 45 mins, no big deal. The instriuctions were very clear. Pulled a 5500 lb boat up to Lake Powell with it. Got down to 1st gear on some of the hills going up to flagstaff, but other than that it was fine. Takes forever to stop because of the weight. Also kept below 65 mph.

I pull a Jet Ski to San Diego all the time, no problems. Probably weighs in at about 1200 lbs.

Just got back from towing a pop-up trailer from Vegas to Lake Tahoe and back. steep curvy mountian passes, long climbs, 6-9% grades up and down, etc... about 3500 lbs, no problems.
