2000 Discovery II loses power
I test drove a 2000 Discovery series 2 and I don't know anything about landrovers, however, if I gradually pushed on the gas pedal I could get it up to 70, however, if I pushed the pedal to the floor, the truck would bog down and drop to about 35MPGs. Not sure if I did something wrong or if there is actually a problem. I am looking to buy this truck, it's a 2000 Disco II with 46K miles on it. THKs

That's really low mileage for a 2000. Any dash lights on? Check Engine Light maybe? Get the codes posted on here if so. My first thoughts would be Spark Plugs and Plug Wires. With that few of miles I wouldnt surprised if they are the originals from the factory and are now 13 years old.
It's hard to tell what it is when when it isn't yours to tinker with. If it isn't over heating or knocking it's probably nothing too bad. I would check the CARFAX and maintenace records if they have them though.

Thanks for the reply, the truck itself looks great, engine looks nice, O2 sensors have been changed. It's just when I floor it it will bog down, it won't stall, just lose power, and then I can build the speed back up if I don't floor it. thought it might be some button on or something. Definitly 46K original miles. the guy want's $4K for it. Can't get the codes, but the service engine soon light is on.

You can even get the codes read for free at Autozone. They'll even print out the report for you. Maybe you and the seller can reach a business agreement of sorts. Like take the truck to a shop and split the bill between you two if it's nothing too expensive, and let him keep the truck if it turns out to be something you nor him want to fix. The fact that you dont own the truck makes this difficult as I'm sure the seller doesn't want a "tire kicker" turning bolts on his truck. I wouldn't! I would however consider splitting a couple hundred dollars shop bill with a buyer to make the sell if it wasn't too high. I'd have plenty of money of corse, because you bought the truck. Just a thought. That's the angle I'd take in this situation, but I'm on a first name basis with a really good mechanic I let tackle the jobs I don't have the time/tools/skills for. If/when you own the truck, of course you'll have free access to doing what ever you want to the truck, and this forum will become MUCH more useful to you. I dont know what I'd do without landroverforums.com!
I actually took this route once when I was looking at a boat that had some issues. The seller and I pulled the boat to a marina and had a mechanic inspect it. We split the shop bill. He got to find out what was wrong with his boat for half price and it kept me from buying a lemon boat. Sure I spent $120.00 on a boat I never owned...But I still to this day know that's the best $120.00 I ever spent. It had MAJOR problems!
