2003 Disco II driving lamps
So I'm having issues with the driving lamps...I think that is what they are called. Not the head lamps or fog lamps, but the ones that supposedly come on when I push a button on the right side of my steering wheel that has a "2" on it...and are on the front bumper/guard/thingie (yes, thingie is a technical term
)
Anyway, sometimes they come on, sometimes they do not. Is my wiring faulty? I cannot find anything in the manual that describes them, I am assuming they were an optional feature that the first buyer ordered or whatever. I would like to be able to use them, but I am not sure how they are supposed to come on. I have succeeded twice, but have yet to recreate what I did.
Any ideas? Thanks very much! Please forgive the very stupid nature of this question!

Having added driving lights to nearly every vehicle I have owned for the past 15 years I have run into similar problems. I actually have a set of driving lights on my discovery that I am trying to figure out how to make them work myself. They were on there when I bought the truck and I can't find switch or any way to turn them on.
Did your lights work twice in a row or just 2 random times when you tried them? The first thing I would check is the ground connections for the lights. They could have come loose at some point. If all the ground connections are solid, then your switch may be going bad. It could also be a fuse has blown so find the fuse for the light and check that. If the fuse is bad there is going to be a reason for that, most likely a short, that needs to be tracked down.
Hope that helps.

What you have Annie is the factory additional lamp install. The button with the (2) on it is a momentary switch, which makes the relay "live", it does not switch the lights on. If you get in and start your car, then push the switch, then flash your headlights the indicator (little orange light) on the switch "should" come on, if that light is on the spots are on.
The same applies when using full or main beam, you have to push the switch to make the circuit live. The spots dont come on automatically, the Land Rover kit gives you a choice whether to have them on or not. So switch on your headlights (dipped beam) then select full beam, then push the switch and they should work. As I mentioned earlier, you can push the switch anytime the car is running, and the spots should either operate on flashing of the headlights and when full beam is on
The big problem is that the kit is known to be a little unreliable, and I have yet to find out why, I even know some owners who have fitted new relays to fix it and even then theycan bevery intermittent.
The only real solution, is to bin the Land Rover kit and wire the spots directly of the main beam circuit via a relay, that way they will always come on either when you flash or select main beam. You can wire them the same way as they are, but using a standard relay and by making a "latching" additonal lamp switch from a crusie control switch to retain the samelook / function, this is obviously more in depth to do.
EDIT>>>>>>>>>>>&g t;>>>>>
Well after talking about this, I went outside determined to find out why they are so intermittent. Well after fully checking all the wiring, I found that when the spots were on, if i tapped the control box / relay, they went out, so there was obviosuly something wrong inside it. So I removed it and tried to get inside it to see what was going on, well here lies the problem. The unit is filled with some sort of sealant / filler at assy and its impossible to get to the bits inside wihtout destroying it. I did manage to dig far enough to see the relay in side the box, and it looked rather small and feable, so my opinion is its just not up to the job + the contacts on the relay were quite badly covered in carbon, so that probably added to the intermittent issue as well.
Whats the answer ?? well, I chopped of the plug that goes to that box and because all the wiring is already there, its a simple case of adding some spade crimps to the existing wires, connect them to a standard 12v 4 pin automotiverelay and now they work ALL the time with full beam and flash. I used a relay with a built in fuse to avoid messy inline fuses.
Factory Wiring as follows
Blue /orange stripe is +12v from high beam circuit
Large Blackwire ground or earth
2 small black wires ground for 2 lamps
Blue with yellow stripe +12v for each lamp
Red +12V feed
white and green (not needed)
Small red and blue go to existing switch (not needed)
To wire up so they always come on with flash and full beam......(bin the factory junk)
Large red to terminal30 of relay (needs to be fused at 15 amps for 2 x 55w spots)
2 small and large black wires toterminal 85 of relay
Blue with orange stripeto terminal 86 of relay
2 blues with yellow stripe toterminal 87 of relay
Cut back and tape up the remaining wires as they are not needed, Job done !!

You are speaking a foreign language! I will print this out and give it a whirl...I will probably have to find someone a little more electronic saavy than myself, but I am determined to make it work!
Thanks for your help!
