Default 2003 Disco window gets STUCK on its way down

Hello All,

For a while now I've noticed that my front driver and front passenger side windows get stuck on their way down. the FRONT comes down about half an inch first then the rear comes down making a loud snap as it comes back into position and finally comes down. Sometimes it does the same thing but gets stuck and then stays that way and I am forced to roll it back up.

Again, if you are looking at it, it looks like the FRONT of the window will start coming down 1ST then the REAR which causes it to get stuck on its way down. IT doesn't do this each time I roll the windows down I feel it may be getting worse!

ANY THOUGHTS?

(I used to have a 92 VW Jetta that had this issue with its power windows and I bought manual window regulators, removed the power regulators out, drilled a hole through the door panel, installed the manual window handle and BAM, i had manual windows!!! too bad we can't do the same with our trks)

I have the rave CD so I should be able to remove the door panels and do a visual inspection of the regulator assembly.

PLEASE HELP....

Any thoughts ??? Yes sir since I had this happen to me. I'll tell you for $5.00

All right, since you most likely don't think I'm funny.... here goes: On the end of the door, where the latch is ( please tell me what this part of a door is called) Anyways, over the latch, towards the top there's a torx bolt that holds the door frame. Unscrew it and see if the window still gets caught on its way down.

Can't explain why, but for some reason, that bolt suddenly gets in the way. My fix for that, was to use a washer to assure that the bolt wasn't going in as deep as it did.

If my trick doesn't help, quit playing with it cause your problem resides in the window mechanism and you don't want to damage it further. You'll have to remove the panel and see what's going on. Could be as stupid as a loossen and fallen bolt in the mechanism.

Let us know.

WELL,

I unscrewed the bolt and that didn't seem to help me. I tried it at different lengths and yet no resolve. I will remove the door panels when i get a chance and get back to you. THANKS

Mine did something very similiar. Sounds like it is the window regulator.
Common problem with the DII.
The plastic wheel the rides in a track typically breaks, then the regulator arm pops out of the track, hence the popping sound you hear.

Think I bought my replacement reulator for 75 bucks.
Not that hard to replace.

Good Luck!

you were lucky that it was a relatively easy fix... mine made some noise and wouldnt go up or down, so i pulled off the panel to discover my regulator all bent to hell with pieces jutting out in every direction, so now neither front windows go down, but they are up and dont leak which is fine with me...

OH MAN Im sorry to hear that! I guess a good thing to do is remove the panel and inspect the regulator and maybe even re-grease it every few months...thats what I plan to do!

These regulators break all the time. Even if you do grease it up once in a while, you still have the quadrant gear to worry about, the spot welds break all the time, too.
