Default 2003 Land Rover Discovery

I'm looking at a 2003 Disco with 78K on the clock, very clean. It's a one owner truck from Seattle. I had a 95 Disco awhile back, what do I need to know about the newer models?

How hard is it to find the jump seats? I'm assuming you pull the storage bins and just install...

Is relaibility any better/worse with the newer models? Realistic gas mileage?

The biggest question, what are the key things I need to look for prior to purchase?

What's this truck worth?

Thanks for all the help.

There are no jump seats on the newer ones - they are real seats in the back with head rests and everything. Looks to be a PITA to source, but easy enough to install (I'm going to this right now looking for one, and I'm just going to wait around to find one that's already equipped).

try and find out what major work has been done, have the head gaskets been replaced, has the drive shaft been rebuilt, ask him if you can bring it to your own mechanic for a once over. If he says no then i would get suspicious.

As far as what it is worth, I wouldn't pay more than $6,000 for the SE or $7,000 for the HSE. Especially if it will need some maitenenace work done soon.

First things first here, before you look into anything else go check the VIN. Some 2003 Disco's had oil pump failure issues, all of the ones with the problem fell into a certain VIN range. The VIN range 3A771801 – 3A808362, go check the one you are looking at, if it falls between that range, I would move onto another disco.

If you can afford to jump to looking at 04's I would highly recommend that. The 2004 is the best year of the Disco and has the least issues. It also has center diff lock if you plan to off road any. The 03 does not. Just a consideration.

If you have any question dont hesitate to jump on here and ask. Like I said, go check that VIN.

Real mileage will be in the 14 range for in town and 18 for expressway.
You cannot just add the third row to a DII, you will also need to remove your floor and weld in the 7 pass floor because the 3rd row in a DII actually lacthes to the floor and then non 7 pass does not have the floor anchors. for the seat belts or the seats.

I'm getting just about that. did a road trip and got about 17.5 @ 75mph. All the recent work I had done sure helped.

You def need to test drive a few landys before you buy one. you will see all sorts of difference in how they were maintained!

As previously stated, the 03 had oil pump issues. If you know for a FACT that the engine was replaced, it may be worth it, otherwise I would get an 04. They do make an SE7 for the 03 and 04 Disco, they are hard to find but, they are there. It is very difficult to retrofit a discovery II with jump seats as previously stated but, it has been done.

Stay away from the 03's if in the vin range and don't plan on buying one if you think you are going to install some rear seats. Fid the SE7 with the seats. The floor and mount points on a none SE7 are different and it will require lots of extra modification to secure seats properly along with a new set of coils and shocks to handle the extra weight.

If that's true (and I trust your information from what I've seen of your posts in the last month I've been reading) there is some fantastically bad information "out there", including HERE. Fortunately, I came to the decision that I would prefer to wait it out for the right SE7 either way.
