2003 oil pump failure

RE: 2003 oil pump failure
Also remember that if your 2003 is within the VIN range, that doesn't necessarily mean you're doomed to pump failure. That's just the VIN range where the most risk is. Mine is right in the middle of the VIN range with 119,000 miles and it's never had a problem. I know of many other 03 owners who have had no problems as well. The thing is that there areseveral 03 owners who have had oilpump failures that ruined their motors, and they were almost all within that VIN range.

VIN Range is ListedTECHNICAL ALERT March 14, 2003 TA03 1201 NAS X US Only Cda Only

2003 Discovery Series II Oil Pump Failures Vehicles Affected Discovery Series II (LT) 3A771801 – 3A808362 Situation Oil pump failures on 2003 Discovery Series II vehicles may be the result of a
manufacturing error. Locating dowel pins may be slightly misaligned permitting
assembly of the oil pump to the engine block, but placing stress on the pump housing
which can ultimately lead to leakage or failure. Resolution Whenever an oil pump failure is encountered on vehicles within the above VIN range
the only effective repair currently available is replacement of the complete engineassembly including the front cover/oil pump manufactured to the latest tolerances.
Use the following components to affect a repair: • LBB112301 4.6 Engine assembly LEV
• LBB111461 4.6 Engine assembly NON-LEV

Help.
I know this is an old thread, but any input - good/bad - is VERY welcome. I have an 03 with 53k. It has lifter ticking. Clack, Clack, Calck.... It comes and goes. I have the oil pump pressure tested and all checked out. I'm paranoid now. Is the lifter noise a sign that this oil pump is going under??

What you need to know, is are you over 10 pounds when warn at idle and around 50 at 2000 RPM's. Has your oil light come on at all? If not then you have a noisy valve train, be it a rocker shaft, arm, push rod, lifter or cam lobe and this should be corrected sooner then later, especially if it starts getting any worse.
