Default 2004 DII 18" Rims want to go to 16" Rims

I have a 2004 DII that has 18” rims from the factory. I want to put on the 16” OEM rims to get a less expensive daily driving tire or potentially a little more aggressive tire that is more cost competitive than the 18”. I have (4) 16” OEM rims I bought some time back to do this and now is the time. I spoke with 2 local tire shops and both stated the 16” won’t work on the 2004 due to the caliper size.
You are the experts, BS or not?
I also found a 2002 DII being parted out that has 16” on it with 70% thread wear left and plan to trade the guy a full set for minimal $ exchanged this weekend, so time is critical for me.

140K, Ultra Gauge, 180 degree thermostat , all is good

Yep... definitely D2 wheels. A lot of 04s came stock with 16s.

The sun and heat must be getting to me. That looks like a mirage.

Maybe they are looking at Range Rover information. ALL D2 have the same size brakes, 1999-2004.

i'd recommend a different tire shop.. one that knows what they are talking about... the two you talked to clearly don't.

National stores, that is the scary part. I had thought 16's would fit but went to double check before buying tires and got that response.
