2004 disco KEY REPLACEMENT problem. Crazy?
Trying to order a replacement key and get it programmed, etc.
Dealers says this cars VIN number was never 'registered' ?
and a new Key cannot be created ? Is this Legit? -makes no sense at all!
Any comments or ideas before I contact the dealer tomorrow and
ask them WTF ?
* 2004 Land Rover Discovery. Daughters car.
She was driving using her ONLY key
(key is now on the ocean - bounced off of a boat - long story).
Note: We had never ordered a new or a replacement key.
Anyone?

Only options I can come up with right now would be: (1) pull a lock core (drivers door would be easiest) and have a key made; or (2), order a complete new set. If you order a new set, the fobs need to have a barcode and not have been programmed to work. Can't program a fob after it has been used, but the blade part will work.

Option #1 will run about $50 depending on the locksmith. #2 will cost upwards of $400 ($250+ for the locks/keys, about. $120 for a new fob, and $100 for programming at the dealership). Will get pricey quick.

Most current tools will program with the code on the circuit board inside the FOB. And even the tools that will not, you can generate the full barcode.
notice step one here: http://www.landroverclubvi.com/uploa...8601nasf_2.pdf
it talks about calling land rover to obtain the codes.
