Default 2004 Disco SE... need a (used/refurb engine)

Can anyone help me out with a reliable place to find a used or refurbbed engine for my 04 disco, also I've heard that the 4.0L could be used (from older models) any truth to that ? Would greatly appreciate any help and insight, thanks.

I would think a 4.0 would work, being people swap the 4.6 into the 99-02 that came 4.0

Huge mistake, you will loose power and more importantly value if you throw a 4.0 in instead of a 4.6.
What is wrong with your, how many miles on your truck, where are you located and will you be doing the install?????

If I am not mistaken, dropping a 4.0 into the truck may also create issues with you ecu. Also, isn't there a length issue of some sort? The 03, 04 use different front drive shafts from the 99 to 02 models, although that may be due to something aft of the bellhousing. Phil

He would need the ECU from a 4.0.
He would loose, are you ready? 8 horse power, the DII 4.0 has a wopping 192 hp, the 4.0 in the DI has 188 the 4.6 has 200 then 3.9 is 182hp.

The transmission is longer for the '03-04 models. It has a bigger pump.

As long as he uses a Bosch engine he can use any Rover engine he wants.
If he gets a 4.6 from a P-38 he can use his ECU, if he gets a 4.0 then he will need that ECU.
A DI engine will not work in any way, the Bosch has twice as many sensors as the GEMS.
Even though they use the same block and heads they have different things attached to them.

The 4.6 has 217hp.
