Default 2004 homelink help

I was looking to put homelink in my 2004 disco. I found one for 30 bucks and was wondering since my disco is the "cheap" S model and homelink was not standard, should it still have the wiring? I pulled the plate off of where the homelink should be and there were two different strands of wires; one running to the auto dimming mirror and the other strand running to the light. I know most discos have the wiring for different options but not the buttons like the heated seats and fog lights in front. Is there a way to hook this up since I am unable to find the connector that should connect to the homelink system?

You may find if you have one of the newer garage door openers that even if you hook one to your car it won't work cause the old D2 Home links were more for fixed frequency doors, not the new doors that always change frequency.

i actually just programmed the stock homelink in my '02 last weekend to my 2 garage doors on my 3 year old home. the owner's manual gives clear instructions on how to do this on garage door openers with "rolling codes." so, it is possible. working great!

ive attached links to my picasa dropbox with photos of the pages in the manual discussing this

Discoman,
Where would you find the harness? I would think it would be there but the two wire strands are running to the light and mirror and there is not an extra strand not used. Would it be possible that mine does not have the power wire run up there? Or do you think it is not pulled that far down and I might have to take the plastic cover (whole overhead peiece)off where all of the empty spots are and try to locate it?

IIRC....there compass and homelink mirror in my 2003 only need 12v to operate...... so...there shouldn't be a second harness if you have the compass in the mirror..... just swap the mirrors out and give it 12v...

03-04 had homelink in the mirror. Previous years used the module in the ceiling console.

I open the gate in my apartment complex every night with my homelink. Love it As long as the gate/door is fixed frequency it's incredibly simple to set up.
