Default 4x4 Hack: Using Your Emergency Brake As a Diff Lock

Sometimes you can get stuck with a wheel spinning uselessly. Apply a tiny bit of emergency brake to allow power to go to a wheel that isn't spinning uselessly.

THIS IS SO TRUE! My D2 got stuck on a sand crest deep. I didn't have CDL at the time but wow the hand brake thing worked me out of it!

Sweet. Also, another 4x4 hack for really loose sand is to pull out your floor mats, dig under the stuck wheels, and lay a short track out with them. Much more traction driving over your floor mats than over loose, dry sand!

Crap and I just spent all that money on a CDL....

Curious, as I was having a debate, can you use this trick if your front drive shaft goes out and you don't have CDL to get you home???

Ill give you this information and let you do the math lol. The E-brake is a drum brake fitted to the rear output shaft of the transfer case.

doing the math...This would cause both rear wheels to get power instead of the transfer case sending all the power to the front drive shaft. I need someone to check my math on that

Nah, that would send ALL of the power to the now missing front prop shaft. But without a CDL, if both rear wheels are on the ground, this is going to happen regardless of the P brake.

If your front shaft goes out, your transmission is probably going with it and you're not going anywhere...
