5spd whine
So my 95 d1 has a whine from the tranny/transfer case area. Currently am running Redline MTL in the tranny and Redline shockproof in the transfer. Curious if the whine could be from the output shaft bearing or its syncro's/tranny related. Does the bearing whine when going bad?
I've owned the car for a year and it has made this noise since I've owned it.

Understood-unfortunately I'm 2 1/2 hours from even a dealer. Folks in my area know pick-em up trucks and not 'foreign cars'. Guess I'm fishing to find out if anyone has ever solved a whine by replacing the bearings rather than pulling a tranny.
I realize that transmisions can have lots of noises and run forever-however if I could quiet it down by changing a bearing I might consider it.

Either way it quits, clutch in or out when coasting. In fact, the whine quits when shifting between gears and resumes when I let the clutch out in the new gear.
Hmm, I think I see where you guys are going. Since my driveshafts are still turning when I coast, it won't be an output shaft bearing.
I agree Mike. My wife threatens to take my ashes by the dealer so I'll have been there once.
