I had a great time yesterday wheelin at Sand Lake Rec Area in Cloverdale, OR! I need some help with the following please:
I need a reliable (and affordable) repair manual for the 96 Discovery;
I want to remove my stock radio and install a new Kenwood but I can't figure out how to pull the stock one. Suggestions so I can do it myself?
I attempted to change the oil, but couldn't get the drain plug loose. Is it LH or RH threads? Diameter of head?

Consider download a free copy of a Rave CD, shop manual, just do a Google search for it.

The engine oil drain plug on a DI is 1 1/8". you will need a box end wrench to do it and maybe a hammer.
It is normal thread direction, so move the lowest end of the wrench towards the back of the truck.
If it has been getting serviced at the quick lube it will be way over tight.
You will need a hammer to break it loose.
It is easiest to service a DI if both passenger wheels are on ramps, this puts the drain plug facing down into your drain pan and gets the u-joints high enough for you to crawl under the truck and lube them all.
