You only have 60000 miles on the odometer? What does your exhaust look like? Are you sure the oil isn't just leaking out somewhere? How long have you owned it? If the oil has never been changed it could be burning that much now, or else you have a big problem. How does your oil and coolant look?

Funny thing about engines and motor oil, engines like one brand, if you used Castrol for 2 oil changes and then switched to Mobil yes you can get increased oil consumption.
If you are using to thin of a motor oil you can get increased oil consumption.
How long have you owned the trk, when was the last time you changed the oil and what weight and brand of oil are you using?
It is best to pick one brand of motor oil and use ONLY that brand. If you are on the road and need to top off you can use whatever you can get, but as far as oil changes go, stick with one brand.

YES, you should be concerned. Most likely it won't be the rings, may be the oil separator/pcv fitting and hose or more likely the intake manifold gasket, that when saturated, they suck oil into the manifold and burn it.

Might want to post this in the freelander section. I have heard the 6's in these are junk and prone to failure b/c of oil related problems.
