Question 99 D2 Front Axle Problems.........

This is my cousin LR. When put in any gear the front driveshaft just spins, the rear driveshaft doesn't move.

After it first happened the truck was towed home then drove into the driveway no problem. Now the front driveshaft just spins again.

Has anyone had this problem? Does the front diff break on the D2s?

Sounds like the front diff is blown.
Time to drain it and see what comes out.

Anyone?................... Disco Mike?

We haven't pulled it apart yet but I think we will just get a used 3rd member from the local LR wrecker so he can get it rolliing again.

I'll have him drain it tonight.

What actually holds the axles in the diff and housing on a LR? I know they can't have c-clips.

The hub bolts hold the axle in they are not held in by anything else.

After you take the rotors off spray the area where the hub mates to the spindle with rust bust or equal. I've had some that were a real bitch!!! Your gonna need a slide hammer with the flange that mounts to the lug studs to pull em out. Never ginkz yourself by saying it will be easy! ha!
