Default 99 Disco 130K will not shift out of Park

any ideas where to start troubleshooting. Had to have the car towed with all four wheels off the ground to my house. been working fine - just wouldn't engage after I came out of the shop.

No it was a home improvement store - sorry. I guess shop would mean garage or auto repair to most including myself when referring to automobiles.

You would step on the brakes and have someone standing behind the truck telling if the lights came on or not.

Also, if you need to drive it or if this happens in the future, it is very easy to get it out of park. You just pick up on the plastic ring around the shifter (should pop up with no tools), and look in underneath it. You may need to be out of the truck and leaning over the seat to see. Look for a round thing that looks like its in a hook or cradle, right near where the shifter is under that cover. It's a bar that comes out horizontally (towards you if you're in the driver's seat). Just give it a gentle shove in....it will move right out of the way, and you can pull it into gear.

A bad brake light switch/fuse or a bad shift interlock (the thing you are pushing on) can all cause this, so its good to know how to get around paying for a tow in case it happens.
