Default about that acceleration...

so after changing the diff fluid, transfer case fluid and trans fluid and new tires, the Disco is now moving and rolling much smoother. however,... was doing some city then hwy driving yesterday and noticed a weird thing about acceleration. when I push the accelerator, about 1/4 way down there's good rev's and good power transfer and she gets going (relatively, of course), as I increase the pedal pressure, there's more oomph from the engine, but there ain't so much in the way of power transfer or get-up-and-go. Wtf? your thoughts/explanations...

D2's are big slugs. I'm just happy when it moves forward.

LOL....^X2. I am always amazed when guys on here talk about cruising 75 and 80mph on the freeway. I have found my sweet spot to be 65mph. Anything over that and I feel like the truck is maxing out. I have given up trying to get more power. I am however going to buy new cats soon so I'm hoping that will be the golden ticket and give my a few more MPG and HP. If that doesn't help then I'm pretty sure I've done all I can.

Well laugh at me all you want...I'm comfortable running at 75 and 85 on the tollways here....pretty much have to so I won't get hit by all them damn Yankees and Californicators that have moved here. Yes our tollways have 75mph and 85mph speed limits on them. Welcome to F#$@! Texas my friends! But seriously I'm not going to beat a School Bus off the line but at cruising speeds she runs just fine. And to accelerate to merge, yelp I have to put the peddle to the Aluminum.

I ran 80-90 with my truck, 33s with a 3.5" lift and a roof rack on the way back from Conclave, no issues.

If you run a diesel LR you soon learn what 'patience' is all about whilst waiting for it to trundle up to speed. If you need lightning acceleration an LR ain't the vehicle for you. A Porche or Ferrari is a far better bet.

Those 4:11's you have probably help move those 33's. At 90mph you must be over 3k rpm's. how is your MPG running at that speed? I've been wanting to upgrade gears ever since I put on my 265/75 duratrac's. I felt a lot of acceleration loss with the lift and tires.

As for the original posters question, the DII makes WAY more Torque than it does HP. Torque is what gets things moving, HP is what is responsible for speed. At some point during acceleration you're going to reach the end of the Torque benefits of the little V8 and then VERY soon after that you're gonna see the lack of HP rear it head as evidenced by that rather sudden and LONG plateau in acceleration...Unless you put that foot in it!! LOL... Like Ghaniba said, I'm just happy it's moving forward...

The transmisson in these things shifts out the earliest I've seen in a vehicle. It will literally let you lug the engine. Try pressing the button there by your shifter and switching to SPORT mode. That will make your shifting points a little more aggressive and give you a little better acceleration, but be expected to take a small hit in the MPG dept.
