ABS light-reasons for it?
My question was going to relate to the ABS light not going off. It happens to also be when my brakes (not sure which ones) are starting to squeak/squeel...like it's time to replace some pads.
When I owned my Hondas...whenever the brake fluid was low or the brakes needed pads the brake light would come on.
Does anyone know if this may also be the case with the rover? I have a Disco98...just hit 100K.
Thanks for everyone's help. I'm so very happy to have found this website. I applaud all of the mods and veteran members who are so willing to help out those like me who ask stupid questions.

Squeaky brakes can set off the ABS light. That is why it is imerative to use good quality replacements. If your brakes throw a lot of dust, it can make a wheel speed sensor dirty, also causing a fault. Unfortunately, you have to have the ABS codes read by a dealer or someone with the right equipment to find out what is causing it for sure.
Good Luck!
Good Luck!
Good deal...I've gota repair guy who can read the codes...but the first thing he automatically assumes when I tell him the light is on is that the whole ABS system is out...he didn't think the pads could set off the code...we will see...
Thanks! BTW...my disco looks just like yours...pretty, ain't it? We are just south of you in Texas. How does your disco like the southern heat? Just curious.

I'm new here & new to Disco's too bulldoggergal, welcome! It is a good forum, very helpful, probably one of thebest I've come across. Same for most of the dealers (LR & independant) I encountered so far. Land Rover ofDallas gave me the code for my radio over the phone for free! Acura would have charged me about $65 I think.I live just south of OK too, in DFW, TX. And also have been driving Honda's (& Acura's) for the past 14 years. So I'm getting used to very high maintenance vehicle compared to the Honda also!
As far as the heat, seems like my A/C (95 Disco)struggles a bit to keepthe cabin coolcompared to my Acura. The vent temps are a bit higher than the Acura. The other thing I noticed was, how much heat the engine gives off?! When I stop it feels like there's a furnace under the hood, just from the heat coming out around the gaps around the hood?! But the temp guage shows normal.

Just so you know, You have to use testbook, or an autologic scanner. If your mechanic isn't a rover guy, he probably won't be able to read it.
As far as the heat, I had a few spikes the last 2 summers. I flushed my system and changed to Dexcool. I have heard storied on both sides as to whether it is good or not. Haven't had any problems, and I have had it in for 3 months now. Runs 10 degrees cooler and no spikes. Seems good, but I watch my gauges like a hawk.
These engines have aluminum blocks. Iron will retain the heat, and aluminum dissapates the heat, that's why it seems hotter than most cars in the engine bay. Sometimes I think I could bake a pizza under my hood. From what I hear, this is normal. Still make sure and watch your gauges and check your coolant regularly. If these things get too hot, they are toast.
