I wanted to add or replace the standard single electric fan with 2 - 12" slim design fans in front of the condenser. I notice as the weather is warming up. So does my rig under city idles, off road coasting and long uphills. Even worst with AC on. I wanted that 2nd fan ready to flip at a switch for extra cooling. I don't think these truck does enough cooling themselves fast enough. I know guys going to state their opinions about checking on cooling parts and hoses. I replace all cooling parts along with a in-line thermo mod and rebuilt the engine along with the head job. Its better than before. However, I just liked to have that additional cooling.

Anyone have any good write ups about this particular mod?

 

i've heard of people retro-fitting a RR p38 dual fan into the Disco, but not sure of CFM improvements...either way, consider me interested in the mod as well! (Subscribed)

 

If you are bothering to rewire the electric fans, you might as well pull the mechanical fan and go fully electric.

That way you make a few horsepower for your work.

I believe the Ford contour electric fans are commonly used because they are about the right size, are readily available, and move a ton of air.

 

I gave that a thought when i converted mine, but decided with the failure rate of condenser fans and how important they are "I" would feel safer with both running together.

 

There's been quite a bit of discussion on the Landrover United Arab Emirates Facebook group about this sort of modification.

The general feeling there is that a bigger aux fan in front of the condensor improves the A/C, especially at idle and low revs, but that replacing the mechanical fan with an electric one is not worth the effort and (according to some owners) potentially risky

 

I would agree with the last part of that statement

 

I'm going to keep the clutch fan. Maybe upgrade it to a Hayden 2991 to pull more air in. However, going with 2 - 10" electric fan. Each moves 1730 cfm and pulls 12.7amps max. With the limited space in front. I wanted to make sure I wasn't obstructed outside air flow.

2 years w/ a thermostat controlled 3300 cfm fan replacing the mech clutch fan and hp is up, mpg's are down and so are temps. Zero reliability issues and electric fans have been around 40 years on cars with documented reliability. Only issue is that when they do fail, it's not gradually.

 

Do you drive offroad in conditions where the temperatures are 40 to 45C+ (110-120F) for 6 months of the year?
